***EVENT CANCELLED*** Celebrating Mzansi Culture: King Cetshwayo The Musical

It is with our great disappointment that despite great efforts, Wushwini Arts have again cancelled their scheduled performances here at The Welfare Ystradgynlais on 12th & 13th December.

Jerry Pooe, the Director of Wushwini Arts, has tried very hard to make a tour happen but he has informed us that with their flight sponsors South African Airways (SAA) currently on strike, SAA have withdrawn their support for free flights for their trip, making the trip impossible.

It is unlikely that we will reschedule again, please contact the Box Office for a full refund on 01639 843163.

We apologise massively for any inconvenience caused.

We are delighted to announce a rescheduled date for King Cetshwayo: The Musical following its’ cancellation earlier in the year. The show was originally scheduled to coincide with the visit of King Goodwill of the Zulu nation to Powys earlier this year, however, whilst the King and his entourage were able to go ahead with their visit, Home Office delays meant that our performers did not receive their visas in good time to make the trip. Well good news! They have now secured visas and will perform King Cetshwayo: The Musical at The Welfare Ystradgynlais on Thursday 12th December, followed by their South African Music & Dance Extravaganza on Friday 13th December.

Jerry from Wushini Arts said “We are so looking forward to finally meeting everyone in Ystradgynlais, having been devastated that visa issues led to us cancelling performances earlier in the year. We are so excited to finally make it to your beautiful valley and to share an evening of Zulu culture with you all.”

King Cetshwayo: The Musical – Thursday 12th December, 7pm

King Cetshwayo: The Musical tells the story of the Zulu’s defiance against the English and Welsh Regiments during the Anglo-Zulu Wars in 1879, and the victories that re-inspired the pride of a nation; defeating guns with spears in a David and Goliath real life story.

The brainchild of playwright Jerry Pooe, this vibrant and colourful production is performed by over 20 artists and musicians from South Africa and combines theatre, film, song, storytelling and traditional Zulu and Shembe dance movements.
